~ٱلشَّمْس~
Surah Ash-Shams
Oaths by the sun, moon, day, night, sky and earth culminate in the human soul that Allah proportioned and inspired with both wickedness and piety. Salvation is for the one who purifies it; ruin for the one who buries it. Thamūd denied and perished for defying Allah’s sign.
🔎 Note: The yellow pop-up glosses are literal word-for-word translations. The intended Qur’ānic meaning can be broader or different—please read the Tafsīr below each verse.
About “وَ” in verses 1–7
Here the leading وَ is part of a Qur’ānic oath structure (qasam). Allah swears by the sun, moon, day, night, sky, earth, and the soul to emphasize the truth that follows. In the pop-ups we keep “and” as a literal gloss; the oath function is explained here in the intro and Tafsīr.
