📖 Verse 1
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
O Prophet, when you divorce women, do so according to the prescribed waiting period, count it carefully, and fear Allah. Do not expel them from their homes, nor let them leave, except in the case of a clear indecency. These rulings are Allah’s limits, and one who crosses them harms himself, while Allah may bring about a new outcome after that.
Divorce must follow Allah’s guidance with care, restraint, and awareness of accountability.
📖 Verse 2
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
When the waiting period nears its end, either take them back honorably or part from them honorably. Have just witnesses and uphold testimony for Allah alone. This is an admonition for the true believer, and whoever fears Allah, He opens a way out for him.
God-consciousness brings guidance and relief at difficult moments.
📖 Verse 3
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Allah provides for the one who fears Him from unexpected places, and whoever relies upon Allah will find Him sufficient. Allah always carries out His command and has assigned a measured decree for everything.
True reliance upon Allah brings sufficiency and calm in uncertainty.
📖 Verse 4
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
For women past menstruation, and for those who have not menstruated, the waiting period is three months if there is uncertainty. For pregnant women, it lasts until delivery. Whoever fears Allah, He makes his affair easy.
Allah clarifies family rulings precisely so people may act with justice and ease.
📖 Verse 5
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
These rulings are Allah’s command revealed for your benefit. Whoever fears Allah, He erases his sins and greatly increases his reward.
Taqwa brings forgiveness and a greater reward from Allah.
📖 Verse 6
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Provide divorced women lodging according to your means and do not hurt them to make life difficult. Support pregnant women until delivery, and if they nurse the child, give them their due payment. Deal with one another fairly, and if disagreement persists, another nursing arrangement may be made.
Islam forbids using divorce rulings as a tool of harm or pressure.
📖 Verse 7
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
A wealthy person should spend according to his means, and the one whose provision is limited should spend from what Allah has given him. Allah does not burden any soul beyond what He has granted it, and He will bring ease after hardship.
Allah’s law is just and takes a person’s real capacity into account.
📖 Verse 8
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Many a town rebelled against the command of its Lord and His messengers, so Allah called it to a severe account and punished it with a dreadful punishment.
Turning away from revelation leads to accountability and loss.
📖 Verse 9
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
That rebellious community tasted the bitter result of its own conduct, and the end of its affair was ruin.
Disobedience may seem powerful at first, but its final end is loss.
📖 Verse 10
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. So fear Allah, O people of understanding who believe. Allah has sent down to you a reminder.
People of insight respond to revelation with reverence and obedience.
📖 Verse 11
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Allah sent a Messenger reciting clear verses to bring believers who do righteous deeds from darkness into light. Whoever believes and works righteousness will enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding there forever, and Allah has made his provision excellent.
The mission of revelation is to guide hearts from darkness to light.
📖 Verse 12
English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):
Allah created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof, and His command descends among them so that you may know that Allah is capable of all things and that His knowledge encompasses everything.
The surah closes by linking divine law to Allah’s power and all-encompassing knowledge.
