📖 Verse 1

وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains that this oath is by the noble angels, whose actions show perfect obedience to Allah; they pull out souls with force until the soul is brought out and recompensed for its deeds.

۞ وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا ۞

The angels pull out souls by Allah’s command.

📖 Verse 2

وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains this among the angels’ actions: they draw souls out gently and easily, as Allah commands.

۞ وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا ۞

The angels draw souls by Allah’s command.

📖 Verse 3

وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains this as the angels moving swiftly, like those who swim, in carrying out Allah’s command.

۞ وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا ۞

The angels move swiftly in obedience.

📖 Verse 4

فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains this as the angels hastening and racing to fulfill what Allah commands them.

۞ فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا ۞

The angels race to carry out Allah’s command.

📖 Verse 5

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains this as the angels who manage the matters Allah has entrusted to them by His command.

۞ فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا ۞

The angels manage assigned matters only by Allah’s command.

📖 Verse 6

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains the quaking event as the standing of the Hour.

۞ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ ۞

The first tremendous quake of the Hour.

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains that another blast follows it, bringing the people to the Resurrection.

۞ ٱلرَّادِفَةُ ۞

The following blast after it.

📖 Verse 8

قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

On that Day, hearts will be full of fear and disturbance because of what they witness.

۞ قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ ۞

Hearts tremble from the terror of that Day.

📖 Verse 9

أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Their eyes will be humbled and lowered, showing fear and humiliation.

۞ أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ ۞

Eyes are humbled by fear.

📖 Verse 10

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

The deniers say this in rejection: will we really be returned after death to our former state?

۞ يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ ۞

The deniers reject return after death.

📖 Verse 11

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

They mockingly object: will this happen after we have become decayed bones?

۞ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً ۞

They mock resurrection after decay.

📖 Verse 12

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

They say that such a return would be a losing return, speaking in denial and mockery.

۞ قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ ۞

They claim such a return would be loss.

📖 Verse 13

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Al-Sa‘di explains that it will only be one shout from Allah’s command.

۞ فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ ۞

The resurrection comes by one command.

📖 Verse 14

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Then suddenly, after that one shout, they will be gathered upon the open plain.

۞ فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ ۞

They will be gathered on the open plain.

📖 Verse 15

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah says to His Prophet ﷺ: has the story of Moses come to you? It is a great and certain matter.

۞ هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ ۞

The story of Moses is a great confirmed account.

📖 Verse 16

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

His Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa.

۞ إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى ۞

The place where Allah called Moses.

📖 Verse 17

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah commanded Moses to go to Pharaoh, for Pharaoh had transgressed and exceeded the limits.

۞ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ ۞

Pharaoh exceeded all bounds.

📖 Verse 18

فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Moses was commanded to invite him gently: would he purify himself from disbelief and disobedience?

۞ فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ ۞

The invitation was to purification.

📖 Verse 19

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Moses would guide him to knowledge of his Lord so that fear of Allah would enter his heart.

۞ وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ ۞

Guidance to the Lord produces fear of Him.

📖 Verse 20

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Moses showed Pharaoh the great sign, and Al-Sa‘di mentions the clear signs such as the staff and the shining hand.

۞ فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ۞

A clear, great sign was shown to Pharaoh.

📖 Verse 21

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Pharaoh denied the truth and disobeyed Allah’s command.

۞ فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ ۞

He combined denial with disobedience.

📖 Verse 22

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Then he turned away, striving against the truth and opposing it.

۞ ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ ۞

He turned away while striving against the truth.

📖 Verse 23

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

He gathered his people and called out among them.

۞ فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ ۞

He gathered and called his people.

📖 Verse 24

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

He said in arrogance: I am your highest lord.

۞ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ۞

Pharaoh claimed lordship arrogantly.

📖 Verse 25

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

So Allah seized him with the punishment connected to the Hereafter and the first life.

۞ فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ ۞

Allah seized him with severe punishment.

📖 Verse 26

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

In what happened to Pharaoh there is a lesson for whoever fears Allah.

۞ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ ۞

The story is a lesson for hearts that fear.

📖 Verse 27

ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ بَنَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah gives a clear proof against those who deny resurrection: the creation of the heaven is greater and stronger than the creation of human beings, and Allah built it.

۞ ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ بَنَىٰهَا ۞

The heaven is a greater creation than people.

📖 Verse 28

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah raised its height and perfected it.

۞ رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا ۞

Allah perfected the heaven.

📖 Verse 29

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah darkened its night and brought out its daylight.

۞ وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا ۞

Allah brings night and daylight.

📖 Verse 30

وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

After that, Allah spread out the earth.

۞ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ ۞

Allah spread the earth for creation.

📖 Verse 31

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah brought from the earth its water and its pasture.

۞ أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا ۞

Allah brought out water and pasture.

📖 Verse 32

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Allah set the mountains firmly upon the earth.

۞ وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا ۞

The mountains were set firm.

📖 Verse 33

مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

These are provisions and benefits for people and their livestock.

۞ مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ ۞

Allah made these benefits for people and animals.

📖 Verse 34

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

When the greatest overwhelming calamity comes, every other hardship becomes small before it.

۞ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ۞

The greatest calamity is the Resurrection.

📖 Verse 35

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

On that Day, the human being will remember what he worked for, good or evil.

۞ يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ ۞

People will remember their deeds.

📖 Verse 36

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Hellfire will be brought forth and made visible to whoever sees.

۞ وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ ۞

Hellfire will be made visible.

📖 Verse 37

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

As for the one who transgressed, Al-Sa‘di explains that he exceeded the limits and dared to commit major sins.

۞ فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ ۞

Transgression means crossing Allah’s limits.

📖 Verse 38

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

He preferred the life of this world over the Hereafter.

۞ وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۞

He chose worldly life over the Hereafter.

📖 Verse 39

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Hellfire will be his abode and refuge.

۞ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ ۞

Hellfire becomes his abode.

📖 Verse 40

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

As for the one who feared standing before his Lord and being judged with justice, that fear restrained his soul from desires that block obedience.

۞ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ ۞

Fear of standing before Allah restrains desire.

📖 Verse 41

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Paradise will be his abode and refuge.

۞ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ ۞

Paradise becomes his abode.

📖 Verse 42

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

The stubborn deniers of resurrection ask you about the Hour: when will it come and be established?

۞ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا ۞

They ask about the timing of the Hour.

📖 Verse 43

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

You have no knowledge by which to specify its exact time.

۞ فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَا ۞

Its exact time is not for the Prophet to specify.

📖 Verse 44

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Its final knowledge and appointed time belong to your Lord alone.

۞ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ ۞

Its knowledge returns to Allah alone.

📖 Verse 45

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

You are only a warner to the one who fears the Hour and benefits from warning.

۞ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا ۞

Warning benefits the one who fears it.

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

When they see it, they will feel as though they had only remained in the world for an evening or its morning.

۞ عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا ۞

Worldly life will seem very short.
