📖 Verse 1
لَمْيَكُنِالَّذِينَكَفَرُوامِنْأَهْلِالْكِتَابِوَالْمُشْرِكِينَمُنْفَكِّينَحَتَّىٰتَأْتِيَهُمُالْبَيِّنَةُ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists would not leave their false ways until a decisive proof came to them.

رَسُولٌمِنَاللَّهِيَتْلُوصُحُفًامُطَهَّرَةً

وَمَاتَفَرَّقَالَّذِينَأُوتُواالْكِتَابَإِلَّامِنْبَعْدِمَاجَاءَتْهُمُالْبَيِّنَةُ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
Those given the Scripture only split after the clear proof came—out of obstinacy and following desires.

وَمَاأُمِرُواإِلَّالِيَعْبُدُوااللَّهَمُخْلِصِينَلَهُالدِّينَحُنَفَاءَوَيُقِيمُواالصَّلَاةَوَيُؤْتُواالزَّكَاةَوَذَٰلِكَدِينُالْقَيِّمَةِ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
They were only commanded to worship Allah with sincere devotion, upon the upright religion—establishing prayer and giving zakah. This is the true, straight way.
Purifying one’s religion for Allah alone—free of shirk and showing off.

إِنَّالَّذِينَكَفَرُوامِنْأَهْلِالْكِتَابِوَالْمُشْرِكِينَفِينَارِجَهَنَّمَخَالِدِينَفِيهَاأُولَٰئِكَهُمْشَرُّالْبَرِيَّةِ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists are in Hell—abiding therein; they are the worst of creation.

إِنَّالَّذِينَآمَنُواوَعَمِلُواالصَّالِحَاتِأُولَٰئِكَهُمْخَيْرُالْبَرِيَّةِ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
Those who believe and do righteous deeds are the best of creation—due to their faith, sincerity, and obedience.

جَزَاؤُهُمْعِنْدَرَبِّهِمْجَنَّاتُعَدْنٍتَجْرِيمِنْتَحْتِهَاالْأَنْهَارُخَالِدِينَفِيهَاأَبَدًارَضِيَاللَّهُعَنْهُمْوَرَضُواعَنْهُذَٰلِكَلِمَنْخَشِيَرَبَّهُ
English Tafsir (Al-Saʿdī):
Their reward is everlasting Gardens of Eden with rivers beneath—abiding therein, Allah pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever fears his Lord.
Mutual pleasure: Allah’s approval of them and their contentment with Him—highest felicity.
