📖 Verse 1

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Worldly rivalry in increasing wealth, status, and followers has distracted you from obedience, remembrance, and preparing for the Hereafter.

۞ At-Takāthur ۞

Competing to have more—what keeps hearts busy and veils them from their true purpose.

📖 Verse 2

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

“Until you visited the graves” — i.e., until death ends the distraction. “Visited” hints that the stay in the grave is temporary before resurrection.

۞ Zurtumu l-Maqābir ۞

A sobering reminder: the race stops at the grave.

📖 Verse 3

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

“Kallā sawfa ta‘lamūn” — No! You will soon know the consequence of this heedlessness (beginning with what the soul meets after death).

۞ First Warning ۞

The initial encounter of truth after life’s distractions.

📖 Verse 4

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

A second emphatic warning: you will indeed know — fully — when you are resurrected and brought to account.

۞ Second Warning ۞

From grave-phase knowledge to Day-of-Resurrection certainty.

📖 Verse 5

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

If you truly knew with ‘ilm al-yaqīn (certain knowledge), you would not be diverted; you would hasten to what benefits and avoid what harms.

۞ ‘Ilm al-Yaqīn ۞

Knowledge so firm it moves the heart to action.

📖 Verse 6

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

You will certainly see the Hellfire — a vision that leaves no room for doubt about the end of heedlessness.

۞ Al-Jaḥīm ۞

A promised sight that confirms the warnings.

📖 Verse 7

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Then you will see it with ‘ayn al-yaqīn — direct sight, stronger than report-based knowledge.

۞ ‘Ayn al-Yaqīn ۞

Seeing with one’s own eyes; reality undeniable.

📖 Verse 8

English Tafsir (Al-Sa‘di):

Then you will surely be asked about the blessings you enjoyed: health, time, wealth, safety, and more — how you used them.

۞ ‘Ani n-Na‘īm ۞

Accountability for every favor: gratitude in belief and righteous use.
